The Oaks Mall is an enclosed shopping center located in Gainesville, Florida, U.S.A. It has 901,000 square feet (83,700 m2) of gross leasable area, and is a super-regional shopping center that is located at 6419 W. Newberry Road (State Road 26), Gainesville, Florida. Its anchors include Belk, Dillard's, JCPenney, Macy's (closing Spring 2018), and Sears.
The mall is owned by General Growth Properties (51% share) and Canadian property development company Ivanhoe Cambridge (49%), with General Growth Properties managing the mall on behalf of the venture. The mall itself is situated on just one floor, but four of the anchor stores, Sears, Macy's, Belk, and Dillards, have two floors.
The mall serves an extremely large trade area stretching into 11 counties with a population growth rate nearly double the national average. The center also benefits from its close proximity to over 64,000 students attending the nearby University of Florida and Santa Fe College. In 2017, mall occupancy was at 96% of the mall's 900,000 square feet of retail space, and improvements continue to made, including the installation of roof-top solar panels, and LED lighting fixtures.
On January 4, 2018, Macy's announced it would be closing its location, formerly a Burdines and Maas Brothers, at the mall. A liquidation sale began on January 8 and is expected to last until March.. Dillard's has announced plans to expand into the space while retaining its existing anchor location at the mall in order to offer a wider range of merchandise with plans to open in November 2018
